Ptarmigan Ptrails, LLC worked closely with Valley Mountain Bikers and Hikers (VMBAH) and the Matanuska Susitna Borough to create a bike park in Matanuska River Park. Ptrails provided consulting and design work, volunteer management construction services. The product is a community bike park that connects schools, businesses, homes and recreation infrastructure to downtown Palmer. The goal of VMBAH and the bikePalmer organizing group was to create a community gem that makes Palmer Alaska the heart of cycling in Alaska.
Palmer Bike Park consists of a new beginner flow trail, Tech Trail, pumptrack, skills area, and dirt jump trails, all connected to an existing 4 mile system of singletrack with difficulty from easy to most difficult. The project had support and funding from VMBAH, NPS RTCA, The Matsu Health Foundation, Alaska State Parks, and the Matsu Parks and Trails Foundation.
