Aquarian Charter, an Anchorage public charter school, hired us to design, layout and build a 1/4 mile running trail. Instead of building the standard, boring, asphalt track loop, PTrails built the trail through a section of low density forest behind the school. Starting off from behind the gymnasium, the 4-5′ gravel trail runs along the school’s property, meandering through spruce, birch and cottonwoods. What a great way for kids to exercise!
The trail consists of a 4-6″ gravel cap on top of native mineral soil, and was built with grades no more than 5% to make it compliant with the American with Disabilities Act.
